Planning and implementation of a pallet lifter

Pallet lifter

Whether for the safe handling of pallets at great heights or the transport of heavy loads, pallet lifters are available in numerous variants that are specifically tailored to the diverse requirements of various industries and applications. Especially in intralogistics, they impress with high load capacity, large lifting heights, and fast operating speeds.

What is a pallet lifter?

Pallet lifters are essential lifting systems that enable the vertical lifting and positioning of pallets and other heavy loads. These devices are particularly indispensable in storage and logistics areas, as they optimize material flow and make the transportation of heavy loads more efficient.

Where are pallet lifters used?

Pallet lifters play a crucial role when pallets need to be transported not by forklifts but by automated conveyor systems. They take on the important task of efficiently moving pallets between different levels. In various industries where traditional forklifts and hand pallet trucks are insufficient, pallet lifters are indispensable for safely and reliably moving heavy loads.

  • Storage and Logistics Companies: Especially in warehouse automation, pallet lifters replace forklifts by moving pallets from automated conveyor systems to different floors.
  • Manufacturing Plants: In production facilities, pallet lifters assist in transporting materials and finished goods between different stages of production.
  • Food Industry: They facilitate the handling of pallets with raw materials, packaging, and finished products, often under hygienic conditions.
  • Retail and Distribution Centers: In retail stores and distribution centers, pallet lifters are used to prepare goods for shelving and shipping.

Advantages of a pallet lifter

Pallet lifters offer numerous advantages that not only increase efficiency and safety in material handling, but also significantly improve working conditions.

Efficient pallet handling

In automated processes, pallet lifters enable continuous material flow without the need for human intervention. This leads to a significant increase in productivity, as pallets can be moved quickly and precisely.

High load capacity and stability

Pallet lifters are designed for transporting heavy loads that exceed what can be moved manually or with conventional lifting devices. They offer high load capacity, often in the range of several tons, and ensure safe and stable handling even under demanding conditions due to their robust construction.

Automation and process optimization

Thanks to integration into fully automated conveyor systems, pallet lifters can help optimize entire production lines. This results in reduced cycle times and better utilization of available resources. Automation enables precise and repeatable movements, leading to consistently high quality and efficiency in operations.

Increased safety

Although human labor is largely alleviated by technology, pallet lifters also contribute to improving workplace safety. The automatic handling of heavy loads minimizes the risk of workplace accidents. Additionally, many pallet lifters are equipped with extra safety mechanisms that prevent falls and ensure smooth operation.

Individual Pallet Handling by ALFATEC

ALFATEC offers customized solutions for pallet handling, specifically designed for the transport of heavy loads. The technical foundation for each smart solution is our heavy-duty guide system with guide rollers and profiles in various configurations. With this modular system, we can tailor our pallet lifters to meet the specific needs of each customer, maximizing efficiency and reliability.

We implement pallet lifters with load capacities of up to 2.5 tons and more, maximum lifting heights of up to 45 meters, and speeds of up to 5 m/s. If your requirements exceed standard solutions, we develop customized solutions based on your individual needs – as custom machinery construction is our strength.

Pallet Handling: More Than Just Pallet Lifting

Pallet handling goes far beyond simple lifting and lowering and is a key factor in optimizing efficiency in conveyor technology. Our systems offer versatile solutions that optimize loading and unloading processes, as well as inventory management. For example, our lift and transfer systems can be used as rack handling devices for Euro pallets, while pallet stackers provide additional flexibility through lifting, moving, and telescoping. The automated pallet storage system, which can hold up to 15 pallets, efficiently handles stacking and unstacking, making manual handling unnecessary and significantly improving intralogistics.

What Components Do Pallet Lifters Consist Of?

Pallet stackers consist of various components that are essential for their functionality and performance:

  • Lift Mast: This is the supporting frame of the pallet stacker, usually made of robust steel to ensure stability and durability.
  • Lift Truck: This mechanical device is used to move and lift loads vertically. Typically, a conveyor (e.g., chain conveyor) is mounted on the lift truck.
  • Guide Rollers and Profiles: Heavy-duty guiding systems with guide rollers and profiles ensure precise movement and stability.
  • Load Handling Devices: Depending on the application, the pallet stacker may be equipped with chains, ropes, or belts to move the load safely and efficiently.
  • Drive: Electric motors drive the lifting mechanism, enabling automated lifting and movement.

Safety Features and Accessories

Pallet stackers can be equipped with various safety devices such as fall protection, catch mechanisms, maintenance chains for redundant safety in case of service, or position markers. Additionally, the devices can be fitted with telescopic forks to increase flexibility during use. An integrated maintenance platform allows easy access to hard-to-reach areas, while a standby drive ensures reliable operation even in the event of a drive unit failure.

Pallet Lifter with Counterweight for Reduced Energy Consumption

When a pallet stacker is equipped with a counterweight, it is possible to use a lower-powered drive. The counterweight is attached to the end of the load carrier and acts as a balancing force. This reduces the load the drive of the pallet stacker has to handle, significantly lowering energy consumption.

How Can the Lifting Platform Be Secured?

With a safety device like the AVS from ALFATEC, the safety of the lift carriage is ensured – even in the event of a power failure, drive unit failure, or control error. Such a mechanical safeguard significantly contributes to increasing process safety and simultaneously reduces the likelihood of failure.

How Should a Pallet Lifter Be Mounted?

The pallet lifter must be securely anchored to the floor. This is typically done by bolting it to a stable foundation, often made of concrete. The anchor points must be designed to withstand the forces that occur during the lifting and lowering of the load. For particularly high conveyor solutions, in addition to the floor anchoring, the pallet lifter should also be fixed to a wall or the steel structure at the upper part.

In Summary: Pallet Lifters

A pallet lifter is a lifting system designed for the vertical transport of pallets and other loads. It improves material flow in warehouse and logistics areas and significantly increases efficiency. Pallet lifters are available in various designs and sizes, offering impressive load capacities, high lifting heights, and fast speeds.
